TORONTO - For many the Victoria Day long weekend marks the start of summer, but for hospital emergency workers it's the start of what they call trauma season.

That's because they consistently see a rise of road and water deaths.

It's no different this year with provincial police already reporting a fatal collision just before 1 a.m. on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Niagara Falls.

An 18-year-old man died after losing control of his Ford Explorer, which rolled several times nearly destroying the vehicle.

Police are also reminding the public that Ontario's tough new impaired driving laws took effect earlier this month.

Anyone caught with a blood alcohol level between 0.05 to 0.08 will have their licence suspended for three days.
