LONDON, Ont. -- Police say a medical technician in a London, Ont., hospital is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a patient.

Investigators say a woman reported being drugged and sexually assaulted during an electroencephalogram procedure in an outpatient clinic at London Health Sciences Centre.

It's alleged that when the woman was at the hospital on April 11, she was injected with a sedative that put her to sleep and that when she awoke, she was being sexually assaulted.

The incident was reported to police on May 11.

A 24-year-old London man is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance by administering or attempting to administer a drug and is to appear in court on July 3.

Investigators say they are concerned there may be additional alleged victims and are encouraging anyone who may have had a similar experience to contact police.

The accused, who was suspended on April 25, has been an employee with the London Health Sciences Centre since May 2015, police said.

He was based at Victoria Hospital until September 2016, at which point he transferred to the London hospital where he has been employed as an EEG technician since, they said.
