Severe lightning strikes are suspected to be the cause of two house fires that broke out in Caledon on early on Tuesday, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

Thunderstorm warnings blanketed most of southwestern Ontario on Tuesday morning when the OPP received reports of two house fires, fairly close to one another in Caledon.

OPP responded to the first fire call at 4:35 a.m. on Healey Road, near Gore Road just north of Mayfield Road. The house was evacuated and all the occupants are said to be safe. An ambulance was on scene, though there were no injuries.

Healey Road is currently closed from Airport Road to Innis Lake Road in Caledon.

Another house fire was reported around 10 minutes later on Keylime Court, near Highways 9 and 50. No injuries have been reported.

The OPP suspects lightning is to blame in both fires.

Environment Canada has lifted a severe thunderstorm watch for Toronto. Similar warnings have ended for most of southwestern Ontario including Windsor, Hamilton and the Niagara region.
