A Liberal study reveals the pending HST will cost the average Ontario family about $45 per year.

Families with a combined income of more than $70,000 will be spending an additional $100 while those who pull in a salary of more than $100,000 will be out of pocket by about $240.

The report was released to help dispel discomfort surrounding the new tax which kicks in July 1.

While the McGuinty government suggests the tax will help create up to 6,000 jobs by lowering corporate taxes, the Opposition believes Ontarians will be hit hard by added expenses.

Residents will receive the first of three government rebate cheques of $100 beginning Thursday.

The payments, made by direct deposit, are intended to ease the impact of the HST.
