Holiday shoppers flocked to the LCBO last Friday, helping the provincial Crown corporation set a one-day sales record.
About $51 million worth of wine, beer and spirits were sold on Friday, Dec. 23, LCBO spokesperson Chris Layton told CTV Toronto.
That amount is $3 million higher than the old record of $48 million, set on Dec. 23, 2010.
Some of the most popular items included pricey items such as single-malt scotches. Liqueurs such as Bailey's Irish Crème and Grand Marnier were also popular, as were sparkling wines, he said.
The LCBO thought the sales record might be broken on Dec. 24, which fell on a Saturday, but that estimate turned out to be wrong.
Layton pointed out that a few years ago, the LCBO sold $55 million in product the day before a labour walkout could have happened. However, it treats that day as an outlier, he said.
