TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays recalled reliever Jeremy Accardo from triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday as they officially placed ace Roy Halladay and closer Scott Downs on the 15-day disabled list.

The moves leave the Blue Jays with 24 players on the roster and they will fill out the final spot before Saturday's game at Washington versus the Nationals, when they'll need a starter.

Halladay, 10-1 with a 2.53 ERA, suffered a right groin strain last Friday against Florida. He's eligible to be activated June 28 and the team hopes he'll be ready by then.

Downs, 1-0 with eight saves and a 1.98 ERA, sprained his left big toe while swinging at a pitch Tuesday at Philadelphia. He can come off the DL on July 2.

Accardo, who missed most of last season with a forearm injury, was 2-1 with nine saves and a 3.38 ERA in 21 games for Las Vegas.
