A bus stop shooting at Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue West is now a homicide investigation.

Omar Waite, 29, of Toronto died of his injuries. A post-mortem exam is to be scheduled, the Toronto Police Service said in a news release issued Friday.

He is the city's 15th homicide victim and the second person to die from gunfire this week. Danny Lewis, 19, died after being shot in the back and legs in the Rogers Road and Keele Street area on Tuesday.

The shooting occurred Wednesday night shortly before 7 p.m.

Waite is believed to have suffered gunshot wounds to his head and leg. He was conscious and breathing when emergency personnel arrived and transported him to hospital.

A suspect -- a black male aged 19 to 20, wearing a black hoodie -- ran off into nearby Eglinton Flats Park.

Toronto police launched a search for him, one that established a large perimeter. A police dog trained specifically to help in firearms cases had also been brought in.

However, no arrest has been made yet.

"Anyone who may have seen or heard the incident, or who knows the whereabouts of the deceased within the last 24 hours, is asked to contact Detective Wayne Banks at 416-808-7411 or Detective Chris Neal at 416-808-7414," police said.
