BATH, Ont. - An inmate is dead following an altercation at the maximum-security Millhaven penitentiary just west of Kingston, Ont.

Assistant warden Vicki Willis says in a statement that Jordan Trudeau, 29, was involved in a violent incident in the prison gymnasium last evening.

Two other inmates suffered unspecified injuries and no staff were injured.

Willis says that in order to gain control of the situation, chemical agents were deployed and shots were fired.

The institution is now locked down and all visits are cancelled.

Willis says inmates were taking part in regular recreation activities when the altercation occurred just after 6:35 p.m.
