It was a bloody day in Scarborough Wednesday after two men were shot to death in separate incidents.

At around 11:20 p.m., police were called to a street corner near Birchmount and Sheppard Avenue, at the rear of Agincourt Mall.

Witnesses told police they heard up to five gunshots fired. When police arrived they found a man lying unconscious on the ground.

Levis Taylor, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Det. Sgt. Dan Nielsen with Toronto police homicide squad said the victim was walking on the sidewalk on Bonis Avenue, just behind the mall when he was confronted by at least two men.

Two suspects were seen running from the scene.

"They fled the scene on foot but got into a vehicle about a block from the scene," he told CTV.ca Thursday morning.

Police say the white car could possibly be a Honda.

The victim's mother, Carol Taylor, arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting on a hunch. She said she had a sinking feeling in her stomach that something was wrong when she didn't hear from her son on Wednesday night.

"I took my phone from my pocket and I called his number when he was lying on the ground," she told CTV Toronto, crying. "I could hear that phone ring."

Shootings not connected

The fatal shooting happened after police spent the day searching for clues to another murder, though Nielsen said there's no evidence the two incidents are connected.

Earlier in the day, at around 10:30 a.m. a man was shot several times in the chest as he was walking near Mclevin Avenue and Sewell's Road in Malvern.

The shooting happened just outside a Catholic high school but police say the victim, 19-year-old Shammal Ramsey, was not a student at the school.

His mother Sandra was distraught when contacted at home.

"I just can't talk right now," she told CTV.ca.

Though the shooting took place in a busy intersection, no one else was injured.

Police are questioning several people who witnessed the incident.

Meanwhile, at the other end of Toronto in Rexdale, police in 23 Division were investigating a suspicious death inside a hotel.

Cleaning staff at the Comfort Inn in Etobicoke discovered the woman's body Wednesday afternoon.

Police say there were obvious signs of trauma on the body.

"We don't know what the cause of death is," Det. Sgt. Gary Grinton told CTV Toronto Wednesday night. "The circumstances lead us to believe it's a suspicious death."

On Thursday night, police issued a press release saying an autopsy concluded there was "no anatomical cause of death found."

Further toxicological testing will be done. The victim's identity has not been released.
