Toronto’s chief medical officer issued another heat alert in the city Thursday, ahead of what is expected to be a hot and sunny Canada Day long weekend.

Dr. Dave McKeown announced that the heat alert would remain in effect until further notice and urged residents to take precautions to stay safe.

Environment Canada’s forecast suggests Thursday will reach 32 C by mid-day. It expected to be only the beginning of a wave of hot days ahead, with temperatures through next week expected to soar into the 30s.

A special weather statement says a hot air mass will move into southern Ontario on Thursday and bring hot weather that will remain through the long weekend.

Friday’s temperatures will also reach a high of 32 C, and Saturday will see a high of 31 C with a 30 per cent chance of showers.

Sunday and Monday will see clear skies and temperatures in the low 30s.

Humidity levels are not expected to reach excessive highs, except in the Windsor area, where a humidex advisory is in effect for Thursday.

During a heat alert, the public is encouraged to check on friends and family who are at a greater risk of suffering heat-related illnesses.

Drinking plenty of water and staying in air conditioned places is also recommended.
