HAMILTON, Ont. - The Hamilton Police Service says one of its officers is facing charges following an investigation into an alleged off-duty domestic assault.

The officer was arrested by provincial police in Cayuga, a community about 40 kilometres south of Hamilton.

The 34-year-old constable, who has been a member of the Hamilton force for 18 months, is charged with two counts of assault.

Hamilton police say they are not releasing the officer's name as it would identify the alleged victim.

The officer has been suspended from duty with pay.
