HAMILTON -- A three-year member of the Hamilton Police Service is facing charges arising from an alleged domestic assault while off duty.

Hamilton police say they began an investigation after being contacted on Sunday night regarding an alleged domestic assault.

Investigators say a 36-year-old officer was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of assault.

Police say they will not be releasing the name of the constable in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim, who was not seriously injured.

The officer has been suspended from duty with pay.
