An off-duty Hamilton cop saw his pick-up truck rear-ended in the city's downtown early Saturday, local police say.

After the collision, the officer stepped out of his truck, but then had to jump out of the way as the suspect sped past him, police allege.

However, the driver didn't get far; several officers arrested him a short distance later.

The incident occurred just after 3 a.m. on Main Street East near Walnut Street in the city's downtown area.

The suspected driver was taken to hospital for minor injuries. The nature of the injuries wasn't specified.
