A 14-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the stabbing of a Grade 11 student at a Brampton high school on Wednesday.
The victim was rushed from Judith Nyman Secondary School, on Williams Parkway near Bramalea Road, with non-life threatening injuries after being stabbed in a hallway.
Peel Regional Police say the victim was engaged in a fight with several other people when he was injured.
Police placed the school under lockdown shortly after 10 a.m, but it was cleared to reopen about two hours later. Heavily-armed Emergency Task Force officers were spotted coming out of the school during the lockdown.
The victim was treated and released from hospital early Wednesday evening.
One student who is believed to be a witness was taken into custody.
Another student said he was surprised to hear one of his classmates had been stabbed.
"It's pretty safe, I'm actually very surprised it happened," Jeffrey Leonard told CTV Toronto outside the school.
The suspect faces charges of:
- assault with a weapon
- aggravated assault
- breach of recognizance
