A funeral was held on Saturday for a teenage boy killed in a single-vehicle crash in Vaughan last week.

The mass for 16-year-old Joshua Ferreira was held at the St. Clair Parish on St. Clair Avenue near Dufferin Street.

Ferreira, who was a student at Toronto’s Chaminade College School, was one of two teenagers killed in the crash on Oct. 24. Tatiana Sousa, 15, was also pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in the Kipling Avenue and Teston Road area.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. after the teens’ car went off the roadway.

In a statement released the following day, police said a vehicle had “left the roadway,” and that “the six occupants in the vehicle were trapped.”

The remaining four victims survived and were treated for serious injuries. Police say all of the victims were minors.

The cause of the crash is not immediately clear, but York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden said weather may have been a factor, as it was raining heavily and visibility was limited at the time of the crash.

“We are in a rural area here on Teston Road in the city of Vaughan. It is kind of rolling hills in the area,” Pattenden told reporters at the scene. “The vehicle itself left the roadway and is about 20 metres off the roadway through a number of trees."

It is unclear who was driving the car at the time and police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
