Friends and family of Katelynn Sampson were holding a visitation to remember the little girl at the Benisasia Funeral Home on Monday afternoon.

The seven-year-old girl was found in an apartment building eight days ago in Toronto's Parkdale neighbourhood, an area well known for drug activity.

When officers arrived, they discovered bruises all over Katelynn's body. Authorities have not said about what killed her. An officer on the scene later said the girls' injuries were "probably the worst thing" he had seen in 20 years of policing.

Katelynn had been staying with her legal guardian, Donna Irving, while her mother dealt with personal issues.

Irving remains in custody on a charge of second-degree murder. Her live-in boyfriend, 46-year-old Warren Johnson, was arrested last Wednesday on the same charge.

A funeral service will be held for Katelynn on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Toronto's Bonar-Parkdale Presbyterian Church.
