TORONTO - Four Toronto-area men have been charged after a massive counterfeit cigarette seizure near Aurora, Ont.

Authorities say an investigation led officers to nearly 44,000 cartons of illegal cigarettes worth more than $2.2 million.

A second tobacco seizure occurred in Markham, Ont.

The cigarettes were shipped in a freight container to Canada and police believe they originated in China.

It's suspected they were destined for the Toronto market.

Four men - Gou Ping Wu, 45; Wai Sun Yeung, 44; Yi Huang, 31; and Kai Fa Choi, 40 - will appear in court on Oct. 10 to face charges of unlawful possession of tobacco products.
