Toronto police say four people have been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a 10-year-old boy as he slept in his home in city’s Blake-Jones neighbourhood earlier this month.

According to police, on June 3 shortly after 11:40 p.m., two people were dropped off in what is believed to be a green two-door Hyundai Accent on Blake Street, in the area of Jones Avenue and Gerrard Street.

The two people entered through the rear of a unit on 70 Blake Street where police allege they fired several shots, one of which struck a 10-year-old boy in the shoulder.

The boy was rushed to Sick Kids Hospital for treatment and “fortunately is recovering,” police Chief Mark Saunders said at a news conference on Thursday.

“I’ve spoken with the boy and his family and considering the trauma that he went through he seems to be doing well,” Det. Darry Linquist added.

Linquist said police contacted Toronto Community Housing Corporation to gather surveillance footage and witnesses statements.

Throughout the investigation, Linquist said it became clear that the boy and his family were not the intended targets of the shooting.

On Wednesday, search warrants were executed and three men and one woman have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Linquist said that drugs were also recovered during one of the searches.

Two suspects identified as 18-year-old Toronto-resident Jeremy Morgan and 20-year-old Toronto-resident Jaden Sauve were arrested and charged with 11 offenses, including weapons trafficking, possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm and carry concealed weapon.

Both men were previously known to police, Linquist said.

Police also arrested 23-year-old John Fetterly-Brown, of Toronto. He has been charged with possess weapon with dangerous to public peace, possession of proceeds, property or thing obtained by crime exceeding $5000 and unlawfully possess schedule one substance.

Also charged is 18-year-old Destany White-Campbell, of Toronto, who has been charged with possession of schedule two substance for trafficking and unlawfully possess schedule one substance.

All four made an appearance in court on Wednesday.

The sister of the 10-year-old boy, who did not want to be named, told CTV Toronto that the family is relieved that arrests have been made in the case, but that her brother is still scared and refuses to sleep alone.
