Fire crews worked to contain a large house fire that broke out in Vaughan Sunday evening.

The blaze started around 5:30 p.m. at a home on Major Mackenzie Drive, just east of Dufferin Street, Vaughan Fire & Rescue Service says.

About 24 firefighters and seven trucks battled the blaze, which was fanned by strong winds.

Flames were visible on the roof of the structure and black smoke could be seen billowing from the blaze.

Hours later firefighters were still on scene stamping out the fire, as well as grass fires sparked from the main blaze.

Fire officials said there are no known injuries. A neighbour told CP24 the home was slated for demolition.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear. There is no estimate of the damage so far.
