A fire that broke out in the kitchen of a Richmond Hill was brought under control on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were dispatched to a townhouse at 138 Yorkland St., in the Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road area, shortly before noon.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the roof of the townhouse as flames burned through window frames before the blaze was ultimately knocked down.

"I heard stuff falling from the roof, so I go outside and I see the kitchen on fire," said a neighbour who witnessed the event. "So I run out, and I just see clouds of smoke."

Police say a female was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
