Fire breaks out at North York house for 2nd time in less than 2 weeks

An investigation is underway after a fire broke out at a North York house for the second time in less than two weeks.

Toronto Fire told CP24 that crews were called to 162 Upper Canada Drive, near Bayview Avenue and Highway 401, just before 3 a.m. for a two-alarm fire.

“Crews arrived to a fully involved house,” Toronto Fire District Chief Michael Anzio told CP24 Tuesday morning.

“The fire was through the roof, through the windows. The first-in captain called the second alarm.”

Anzio said crews initiated a defensive action, and the fire was extinguished an hour later.

Firefighters were not able to do an interior search due to the extensive damage. Anzio said the house was vacant at the time, and no one was injured.

The cause, origin and circumstances of the fire are unknown.

Anzio said the fire is under investigation by Toronto Fire investigators, the Ontario Fire Marshal and Toronto police.

The district chief would not say if the fire were suspicious.

Crews responded to the same home 11 days ago on Nov. 29 for a fire in the roof. The occupants of the house were able to evacuate.

Six people were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“There was another small fire here previously and again, that all forms part of an investigation. I really can’t comment on that right now,” Anzio said.
