A female cyclist has died after being struck by a vehicle in the city’s west end Wednesday.
Police said the 51-year-old woman was travelling west on Lakeshore Boulevard West, near Dwight Avenue, when she lost control of her bicycle and fell, landing in the passing eastbound lane.
As the woman fell, she was struck by an eastbound 1997 Mercury Van driven by a 62-year-old man, police said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial reports indicated the woman was in her 20s.
The accident happened just after 4:30 p.m.
The area was closed Wednesday afternoon as police investigated, but roads have since reopened.
