The father of a missing Woodbridge baby boy has told police that the infant died almost six weeks ago.

Ricky Ray Doodhnaught, 31, told police his son, George, died on or near Nov. 1, York Regional Police said in a statement issued Tuesday.

Doodhnaught was arrested on Dec. 6 and provided the statement three days later, police said.

However, police say the baby's remains have not been located and the information has not been confirmed yet.

Homicide detectives continue to work on the case.

Doodhnaught faces charges of abduction in contravention of a custody order in relation to the child's disappearance and two unrelated counts of theft.

Doodhnaught appeared in a Newmarket court Tuesday morning and was remanded into custody until Dec. 30.

The mother of the child has also been arrested.

On Nov. 24, Doodhnaught escaped when police and case workers arrived at a Comfort Inn in Rexdale. Officials had come to the motel to collect two children under a court order.

Police said the infant George was not with Doodhnaught when he fled. An 11-month-old child was taken into the care of case workers at that time.

George was last seen on Oct. 31 at a doctor's appointment in Woodbridge.
