A Brampton family had to say goodbye to its mother as her son sits in jail charged with her murder.

More than 800 people turned out at Monday's funeral service for Fatima Lima at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Brampton.

The 59-year-old woman's body was discovered last Tuesday by her husband and eldest son. There were signs of trauma on her body, according to Peel Regional Police.

Justin Lima, 28, was arrested the same day.

The tragedy has stunned Brampton's Portuguese community -- a fact addressed by the priest in his remarks to the service.

He spoke of her as a loving mother and a caring, giving member of the community who shared vegetables from her garden.

Justin will be back in court on Tuesday.
