An armoured truck guard shot during a money drop last month is out of hospital.

But as the 37-year-old man begins his long road to recovery, his family is expressing anger over the fact that two of the three 18-year-old men accused in the violent ambush have been released on bail.

Calling the decision to release Nicholas Cross and Rashid Clarke on bail "absolutely ridiculous" and "an utter disgrace," the victim's family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he hopes his words will have an effect on the bail hearing for the third co-accused, Jaden Beckford, whose bail hearing is scheduled for next week.

The gunfire rang out just after 1 a.m. on June 19, near Avenue Road and Brookdale Avenue.

The victim and his partner had just arrived at a bank for what police described as a routine money drop when they were allegedly ambushed by three men. While his partner was locked inside the armoured G4S truck, the victim was shot several times.

The accused were arrested nearby, a short time later.

Police allege the same three males tried robbing the same two guards at another bank just weeks earlier. In that case, police said the guards were able to lock themselves inside the bank and, police say, when the suspects were unable to break the glass they took off empty-handed.

According to the victim's family, a crowbar was used in the first incident. The victim was left traumatized, but returned to work the next day, according to his family.

"It's hard to believe people would conspire not once, but twice to do that," the family member said of the allegations.

Following the shooting, the victim — a husband and a father — spent nearly a month in hospital. He was released earlier this week.

"He's not doing very well. It's a struggle to get up and walk," the family member said, adding the victim has "everything from physical rehab to psychological rehab" ahead of him.

"It's going to be a long time. We've only weathered part of the storm. There's still a rocky road ahead."

While the victim is concentrating on his recovery, his family was outraged to learn that two of the accused were released on bail on Wednesday, the family member said.

Evidence presented during the bail hearing is protected by a publication ban, but the family member said he believes bail should be denied any time there are allegations of such violence, especially those involving an illegal gun.

Each of the three young men faces several charges, including armed robbery, attempt murder, conspiracy to commit a crime and several gun-related offences.

The bail hearing for Jaden Beckford is scheduled for Monday at 1000 Finch Aveneue West.

The victim's family said they will not be in court for the hearing.
