The family of a man who was stabbed to death on New Years Day is asking for the public's help in locating a person of interest in the murder.

Police have issued a photograph of a woman they believe was with the murderer on the day Mike Pimental was killed.

"We as a family are just pleading for help," said Carina Nunes, Pimentel's sister-in-law. "We need someone to step-up and say something. We need this done and over with. It's been too long and this person is still out there."

The woman is not facing charges at this time but is encouraged to come forward, police say

"What I would say to her is to please come forward," said homicide Det. Sgt. Wayne Banks. "We are asking for her for the family, for the police, for the citizens of Toronto to come forward and make yourself known.

"If you have any fear at all in regards to the legal system please contact a lawyer. Have your lawyer contact us."

Pimentel, 24, was fatally stabbed in Liberty Village after leaving a New Year's party.

The father of a young girl suffered multiple stab wounds when he got into an altercation near East Liberty Street and Hanna Avenue at about 3 a.m.

Police said Pimentel and some friends left a nightclub at the CNE on foot, but he became separated from them as he stopped along the way to talk to other partygoers.

Pimentel and another male got into a fight in which Pimentel was stabbed several times, police said. He was rushed to St. Michael's Hospital where he died a few hours later.

Pimentel was Toronto's second homicide of the year.

The woman police are looking for is described as 20 to 30 years old, 5'6" to 5'8", with dark hair with long, blonde, hair extensions. She was last seen wearing black knee-high boots, a black skirt with a white top and black waist-length jacket with a design on the back.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Banks at 416−808−7411 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416−222−TIPS (8477).
