Toronto police arrested a U.S. fugitive in Toronto on Thursday, months after he escaped from a Georgia prison.

Anthony Joseph Maiorano, 32, was spotted in Oakville, Ont. on Tuesday, sparking a manhunt that led to his capture in Toronto's Etobicoke neighbourhood Thursday.

The Toronto Fugitive Squad arrested Maiorano in The Queensway and Park Lawn Road area without incident, according to a news release.

Maiorano is supposed to be serving a 20-year sentence for an aggravated assault and robbery committed in July 2006, but he escaped from the Coastal Transition Centre earlier this year.

He was given a one-day permit in April 2014, and never returned.

On Tuesday, Maiorano was spotted in Oakville when an SUV failed to pull over in a traffic stop near Sixth Line and Upper Middle Road.

Halton Regional Police saw a female driver and a male passenger in the vehicle, which was located at a nearby townhouse. When the vehicle was located, the male passenger had fled.

Maiorano is scheduled to appear in court Friday for an extradition warrant.
