Durham Region police are investigating after a body was found inside a burned-out SUV in Pickering early Wednesday morning.
Police were received reports of a vehicle on fire shortly before 1 a.m. in an industrial complex on Granite Court, near Whites Road and Highway 401.
After fire crews put out the fire, they made the grim discovery.
Investigators don't yet know if they're dealing with a homicide.
"We're not sure if (the body is) male or female," said spokesman Dave Selby.
"We're not sure if foul play is involved."
The charred vehicle has been sent away for forensic testing.
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near the scene recently is asked to contact police.
