A pedestrian is in hospital after being struck by a vehicle that later smashed through the window of an optical store.

The accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Leslie Street, south of Steeles Avenue near Finch Avenue in the city's north end.

The driver of the vehicle lost control, mounted the curb and struck the female victim before crashing through the storefront window.

The pedestrian was rushed to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured during the crash.

The optical store was closed at the time of the accident and no one was inside the building.

Police are investigating the accident to determine if charges will be laid.
