Roads have been reopened after a fiery crash in Brampton that left one person dead and two others in serious condition Sunday morning.
It happened on Goreway Drive near Countryside Drive at around 7:50 a.m.
One of the vehicles burst into flames following the accident and was fully engulfed by the time emergency crews arrived on scene.
Police say the deceased party was the driver of that vehicle.
The other two injured parties, a 19-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, were in the other vehicle.
“I heard a bang early in the morning while I was sleeping. I rushed to the stairs. I came down here to the patio,” area resident Jasvinder Rai told CTV News Toronto.
“I saw three cars over there, one was there and one was in the ditch.”
Rai said he left his house to go help and managed to pull one of the men out from the back seat of the vehicle.
By the time he realized there was a person trapped in the other vehicle, Rai said it had already burst into flames.
“When we got on scene, we did have one vehicle that was fully engulfed and the driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased,” Const. Bally Saini told CTV News Toronto.
He said police have not yet determined what caused the collision and they will be looking at all the usual factors, including speed, driver error and the time of the day.
They are still working to identify the deceased party and notify their next-of-kin.
The major collision bureau has taken over the investigation.
“We are appealing to witnesses if they did see anything or hear anything prior to or during (the accident),” Saini told CP24.
The roads in the area were closed during the investigation but reopened around 3 p.m.
