The driver of a cube van charged in connection with a fatal collision with a TTC bus has been granted bail.

The accused was ordered released on $50,000 bail during a court appearance Friday afternoon, reported CTV Toronto’s John Musselman.

Vincente Bacobe Arbis, 40, was arrested earlier in the day and faces seven charges including criminal negligence causing death, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, dangerous operation causing death and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

The collision, which took place Tuesday, killed one female bus passenger and injured 12 others.

Ranjana Kanagasabapathy, 52, was killed when the van struck the front-end of a TTC bus she was boarding at Steeles Avenue and Middlefield Road.

Arbis’s bail conditions stipulate that he cannot drive, and he must hand over his passport. He must also notify police if he moves or his address changes.

The judge placed a publication ban on evidence related to the crash. However, court heard that the father of three came to Canada from the Philippines four years ago. He has a valid Ontario licence and had been driving a delivery truck for more than a year and a half.

The victim’s family said they were notified by police about the charges. A funeral for Kanagasabapathy will be held this weekend.
