Between deep-fried butter and bacon-wrapped confections, The Canadian National Exhibition has built a reputation on serving up gastronomically-shocking dishes.

But a salty-sweet meal set to arrive at the CNE's 2011 food pavilion might be the exhibition's most stunning dish yet.

The doughnut cheeseburger, an unusual marriage between fried dough and a meat patty, made the rounds at the Calgary Stampede this year and is now slated to debut at the CNE.

The meal was thought up by a Toronto-based company called Epic Burgers and Waffles.

The creation includes two glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts flanking a lean burger patty topped with American cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce, an egg and — in true CNE fashion — bacon.

The Krispy Kreme doughnut cheeseburger will be available to exhibition-goers as of August. 19. The CNE runs until Labour Day weekend.
