NEWMARKET, Ont. - A 72-year-old southern Ontario gynecologist has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the death of his wife.
Dr. Joseph Roncaioli was found guilty Feb. 16 of manslaughter in the death of his 66-year-old wife Ibi Roncaioli.
Police responded to a call at the Roncaioli home in Vaughan, Ont., on July 20, 2003.
Joseph Roncaioli said his wife wasn't breathing when he found her, and she was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem determined the cause of death to be poisoning.
The judge also barred the accused from ever owning weapons.
