Peel Regional Police have arrested a man accused of kidnapping his estranged wife in Brampton, but the 42-year-old woman is still missing.

Police said that Macdermid Ermacora, 42, was arrested on Thursday morning in Brampton after a search for him began at approximately 1:40 a.m.

Police say that Ermacora's wife, Racquel Junio, was abducted early Thursday morning from the couple's home in the Torbram Road and Balmoral Drive area of Brampton.

Junio is described as being of Filipino descent, 5-feet-2 inches tall, 120 pounds with shoulder length black hair and brown eyes.

According to police, there was a struggle outside 15 Deerfield Cres. in Brampton, where Ermacora had been living off-and-on.

Neighbours said that the couple was arguing early on Thursday morning and that Junio was forced into a vehicle.

Four hours later, Ermacora was found.

Police said they responded to a "complaint of a male who forcibly confined his estranged wife" and then left "the scene in an unknown direction."

Later in the day, the Ontario Provincial Police took part in a property search near Nottawa, which is south of Collingwood.

It's believed that the property belongs to, or is associated with, Ermacora. The search wrapped up on Thursday evening and police will resume Friday morning.

Searches continued near Brampton, as well.

Officers remain hopeful that Junio will be found alive. Police said that homicide officers are working alongside 21 Division detectives on the case, which is common practice in missing persons cases.

Ermacora's truck, a 2003 black Ford F-350 pickup, was found near Queen Street and Hansen Road in Brampton, not far from where his arrest was made.

"He has been arrested. He's being brought back to one of our divisions," Const. George Tudos told reporters after the arrest was made shortly after 7 a.m.

Tudos said the missing woman was not in the vehicle and that police are still searching for her.

"We are actively looking for the female now and hopefully the suspect will give us some information," he said.

Ermacora is the brother of a Toronto police detective and the son of a retired RCMP officer. He has no criminal record and neighbours said that he is a mechanic.
