A 16-year-old boy who was thrown from a car and seriously injured during a traffic accident last week has died in hospital.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on Sunday, July 18 at around 1 a.m. on Greencedar Circuit, near Lawrence Avenue East and Markham Road.

CTV Toronto reported that a 15-year-old male was behind the wheel of the car and was attempting to pull off a stunt called "drift racing." As the car sped along the roadway, however, it flipped.

The deceased was identified by friends as Alan Alfred. Investigators said he likely was not wearing a seatbelt.

Four other boys suffered less serious injuries in the crash.
