A 16-year-old cyclist was killed after being struck by a truck in the heart of the Niagara Falls tourism district, police said on Thursday.

Niagara Regional Police say shortly before 9 a.m., the boy was riding his bike down Clifton Hill, near the Niagara Parkway, when he collided with a large tree-trimming truck.

The intersection was cordoned off for several hours during a police investigation, but has since been reopened.

Denis Streeter of Niagara Falls was pronounced dead in hospital. The truck driver was uninjured.
