A cyclist is dead after he got caught in a streetcar track and hit his head on the road Monday evening.

The incident occurred near Wychwood and St. Clair avenues around 6 p.m.

Police said the man, believed to be in his 40s, was travelling west along St. Clair Avenue and attempting to turn onto Wychwood Drive when he got caught in the track and fell to the road.

He was not wearing a helmet.

“When I looked down, he had fallen off the bike, but he hadn’t moved,” a witness told CP24.

Paramedics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

No other cars were involved in the accident.

The tracks that the man's tire got trapped in are no longer used by streetcars.

The man was not carrying ID, so police are asking anyone who saw the accident, or anyone who might know the man, to come forward.
