CTV Toronto weatherman Tom Brown was grinning with excitement after an unexpected appearance on the Price is Right.

Brown won a spot on the long-running game show during a recent trip to California with his 19-year-old daughter Alexandra.

Thinking it would be fun to watch a show, Brown and his daughter were shocked when the Toronto weatherman was asked to "come on down," to contestant's row to participate in the show.

Brown earned his way onto the main stage after correctly guessing the price of two items and won another prize by playing a game called "Secret X." But his luck ran out while spinning the big wheel during the Showcase Showdown, losing the chance to compete for the grand prize.

"It was just a really cool experience, one I'm glad I got to share with my daughter," Brown told CTVToronto.ca after the show aired Wednesday.

"When you go, it is all about being at the Price is Right. Everybody hopes to get on stage. To get onto contestant's row was a bonus, to get on stage was a bigger bonus.

"And to say hi to my son, who is a huge fan, when I was spinning the wheel – that was just the icing on the cake."

The show itself was filmed last month and Brown was sworn to secrecy until the show aired on Wednesday. Finally able to talk about the experience, he said he and Alexandra joined some 400 others and waited in line for five hours before the show started.

"There are 460 people in that audience; you get no indication that it is going to be you," Brown said. "You get caught up in the adrenaline. All 460 people want you to win, and that is the beauty of it."

Brown then played a game called "Secret X" – essentially a game of Tic Tac Toe in which contestants had to win x's to place on the board by guessing the price of consumer products – which Brown won.

Brown joined the CTV Toronto news team in 2004 and has a knack for capturing his audience through his animated, energetic weather reports.

His daughter Alexandra is studying radio and television arts at Toronto's Ryerson University.

The Price is Right is one of North America's longest-running, most popular game shows and has been on the air since 1956. Drew Carey replaced icon Bob Barker as the host of the show in 2007.
