A group of commuters are testing a private Toronto bus route, funded by a group of investors who are fed up with current transit.
From Monday to Friday, LineSixTransit is offering investors guaranteed seats on a bus that runs directly between Union Station and Liberty Village.
During the week-long trial, the eastbound licensed charter bus leaves every morning at 7 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. from the intersection of Pirandello and East Liberty Streets and heads to the intersection of Front Street and University Avenue.
It then turns around at Front and University, heading west at 7:20 a.m., 8:05 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. to the intersection of King Street West and Strachan Avenue.
LineSix launched a crowdfunding campaign in September, asking investors to donate $25 to guarantee a one-way seat on the bus every weekday during the trial. For $50, buyers got two guaranteed seats, and for $75, they got two seats and a LineSix T-shirt.
The company, named after Toronto-born rapper Drake's latest album "Views From the 6," hoped to raise $2,500 to cover the cost of the coach bus. According to its website, it raised $2,775, with 64 people investing.
Routes leaving from Union Station at 8:05 a.m. and from Liberty Village at 8:30 a.m. were sold out on Monday.
