TORONTO -- Students and staff at Ontario schools slowly returned to the classroom in January and February 2021 following an extended winter break.

Since September 2020, there have been a total of 14,909 lab-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Ontario schools and 4,287 in licensed child-care facilities.

CTV News Toronto will be updating this breakdown with the latest information as it becomes available. A full list of affected schools and child-care centres is updated on the Ontario government's website on a daily basis.

April 19 onward: Schools in Ontario are now closed to in-person learning. No return date has been provided by the government.

April 13 to April 16: The province has said it will not publish date for elementary and secondary schools during this time due to the spring break. A regular publishing schedule will resume on April 20.

April 12: Schools across Ontario reported 217 more cases of COVID-19 Monday. At least 186 of those cases were found in children and 30 were found in staff members. The details of one other case was not disclosed.

The province says that 1,302 schools have a current case of the novel coronavirus. The province said that no schools are closed--however April 12 is the first day of Spring break.

Sixty-six more infections were also found in child-care centres. Thirty-three of those cases were found in children and 33 were found in staff members.

The number of centres with a confirmed case of COVID-19 stands at 418 and 130 are closed as a result.

April 9: Schools across Ontario reported 199 more cases of COVID-19 Friday. At least 160 of those cases were found in children and 36 were found in staff members. The details of three other cases were not disclosed.

The province says that 1,300 schools have a current case of the novel coronavirus and 69 facilities are closed.

Sixty-seven more infections were also found in child-care centres. Thirty-nine of those cases were found in children and 28 were found in staff members.

The number of centres with a confirmed case of COVID-19 stands at 420 and 127 are closed as a result.

April 7: Another 719 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ontario schools on Wednesday. At least 571 of those cases were found in students and 146 were found in staff members. The details of two other cases were not disclosed.

Right now, there are 1,266 schools with a reported case of COVID-19. Fifty-seven of those schools are closed.

In child-care centres, 199 more infections were logged, with 113 in children and 86 in staff members. More than 400 centres have a reported case of COVID-19 and 114 are closed as a result.

April 6: Health officials found 236 new cases of COVID-19 in schools across Ontario on Tuesday. Of those cases, 207 were reported in children and 29 in staff members.

At least 1,062 schools have a confirmed cases and 83 facilities are closed as a result.

There were also 76 cases reported in child-care centres. Fifty-four of those infections were found in children and 22 in staff members.

More than 353 centres have a confirmed case and 92 are closed.

March 31: Health officials found 332 new cases of COVID-19 in schools across Ontario on Wednesday. Of those cases, 282 were reported in children and 50 in staff members.

At least 1,199 schools have a confirmed cases and 63 facilities are closed as a result.

There were also 83 cases reported in child-care centres. Fifty-four of those infections were found in children and 29 in staff members.

More than 330 centres have a confirmed case and 83 are closed.

March 30: More than 518 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ontario schools Tuesday. Of the 518 infections, 440 were found in children, 77 were found in staff members and one was in an individual not identified.

There are 1,168 schools in the province with a current case of COVID-19. Fifty-eight of those schools are closed.

Nintey-six more cases were found in child-care centres across Ontario. Fifty-nine of those cases were found in children and 37 were found in staff members.

At least 308 have a current case of the novel coronavirus and 68 centres are closed.

March 29: More than 200 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ontario schools Monday. Of the 215 infections, 170 were found in children and 45 were found in staff members.

There are 1,116 schools in the province with a current case of COVID-19. Forty-seven of those schools are closed.

Thirty-six more cases were found in child-care centres across Ontario. Twenty-four of those cases were found in children and 12 were found in staff members.

At least 282 have a current case of the novel coronavirus and 62 centres are closed.

March 26: Another 167 cases of COVID-19 were found in schools across Ontario Friday, including 138 infections among students and 29 in staff members.

Right now, there are 1,053 schools with a confirmed case and 44 are closed as a result. 

Meanwhile, 50 infections were logged in Ontario child-care centres with 37 cases reported in children and 13 in staff members.

At least 272 facilities have a confirmed case and 65 are closed. 

March 25: Health officials confirmed another 174 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 135 were found among students and 39 were found among staff.

The province says 1,033 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Forty-three of those remain closed.

Forty-seven cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 30 were found among children and 17 were found among staff.

Currently, 263 centres have a case of the disease and 59 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 24: Health officials confirmed another 257 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 209 were found among students, 47 were found among staff, and one case was in an individual who was not identified.

The province says 1,011 schools (close to 21 per cent) now have a confirmed case of the disease. Forty-three of those remain closed.

Seventy-four cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 49 were found among children and 25 were found among staff.

Currently, 257 centres have a case of the disease and 56 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 23: Health officials confirmed another 409 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 333 were found among students, 75 were found among staff, and one case was in an individual who was not identified.

Data provided by the province on Tuesdays includes the total number of cases reported from Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon.

The province says 997 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Forty-eight of those remain closed.

Ninety-three cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 59 were found among children and 34 were found among staff.

Currently, 239 centres have a case of the disease and 53 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 22: Health officials confirmed another 140 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 120 were found among students, 19 were found among staff, and one case was in an individual who was not identified.

The province says 921 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Forty-four of those remain closed.

Twenty-nine cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 17 were found among children and 12 were found among staff.

Currently, 212 centres have a case of the disease and 52 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 19: Health officials confirmed another 132 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 106 were found among students, 26 were found among staff.

The province says 908 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Thirty-eight of those remain closed.

Forty-five cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 23 were found among children and 22 were found among staff.

Currently, 215 centres have a case of the disease and 49 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 18: Health officials confirmed another 119 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 99 were found among students, 19 were found among staff and one was found in an individual not identified by officials.

The province says 915 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Thirty-three of those remain closed.

Twenty-two cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 15 were found among children and 7 were found among staff.

Currently, 208 centres have a case of the disease and 51 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 17: Health officials confirmed another 179 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 145 were found among students, 33 were found among staff and one was found in an individual not identified by officials.

The province says 909 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Thirty-one of those remain closed.

Fifty-two cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 35 were found among children and 17 were found among staff.

Currently, 208 centres have a case of the disease and 49 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 16: Health officials confirmed another 367 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 301 were found among students and 66 were found among staff.

Cases reported on Tuesday by the province include numbers from Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon.

The province says 893 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Twenty-seven of those remain closed.

Forty-eight cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 31 were found among children and 17 were found among staff.

Currently, 205 centres have a case of the disease and 56 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 15: Health officials confirmed another 110 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 91 were found among students and 15 were found among staff. There wre also four cases identified in individuals related to schools.

The province says 840 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Twenty-three of those remain closed.

Thirty-two cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 21 were found among children and s11 were found among staff.

Currently, 182 centres have a case of the disease and 46 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 12: Health officials confirmed another 137 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 99 were found among students and 38 were found among staff.

The province says 850 schools now have a confirmed case of the disease. Thirty-four of those remain closed.

Twenty more cases of the disease were found in Ontario child-care centres. Of those infections, 14 were found among children and six were found among staff.

Currently, 179 centres have a case of the disease and 47 of those facilities remain closed as a result.

March 11: Another 124 new COVID-19 infections were reported in schools across Ontario Thursday. At least 102 of those cases were confirmed in students and 22 were confirmed in staff members. 

Currently, there are 834 schools with a confirmed cases of the virus and 33 facilities are closed as a result. 

Twenty-seven cases were found in Ontario child-care centres in the last 24-hour period. Of those infections, 20 were in children and seven were in staff members. 

The province says that 179 of those centres currently have a case of COVID-19 and 46 are closed.

March 10: Health officials confirmed 194 more cases of the novel coronavirus in Ontario schools. Of the new infections, 159 were found among students, 31 were found among staff and four were found in individuals not identified by officials.

There are 816 schools in the province with a confirmed case of the disease. Thirty-four of the schools remain closed as a result.

There were also 43 more cases of the disease found in child-care centres across the province. Of those infections, 28 were found among children and 15 were found among staff.

Currently, 174 child-care facilities have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and 41 of those centres remain closed.

March 9: Health officials confirmed 263 more cases of COVID-19 in Ontario schools. Of the new infections, 209 were found among students, 45 were found among staff and nine were found in individuals not identified by officials.

There are 780 schools in the province now with a confirmed case of the disease. Thirty-four of the schools remain closed as a result.

Fifty-nine cases of the novel coronavirus were also found in child-care centres across the province. Of those cases, 39 were found among children and 20 were found among staff.

Currently, 174 child-care facilities have a confirmed case of the disease and 40 of those centres remain closed.

March 8: Health officials confirmed 95 more cases of COVID-19 in Ontario schools. Of the new cases, 84 were found among students and 11 were found among staff.

Currently, 734 schools across the province have a confirmed case of the disease. Thirty schools remain closed as a result.

There were also 34 cases of the novel coronavirus found in child-care facilities in Ontario. Twenty of those cases were found among children and 14 were found among staff.

Officials said 162 child-care facilities now have a case of the disease and 40 of those centres remain closed.

March 5: Health officials confirmed 96 more cases of COVID-19 in Ontario schools. Of those infections, 82 were found among students and 13 were found among staff. Officials said one case is an individual who has not been identified.

There are currently 703 schools in Ontario with a confirmed case of the disease. Twenty-nine of the schools remain closed.

Twenty-four new cases of the novel coronavirus were found in child-care centres across the province as well. Of those cases, 16 were among children and eight were among staff.

Officials said there are now 150 child-care centres with a confirmed case of the disease, 37 of which are closed.

March 4: At least 101 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in schools across Ontario Wednesday. Health officials say 77 of those infections were found in students and 21 were found in staff members. Three cases were reported in individuals who were not identified.

Right now, there are 683 schools in Ontario with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Twenty-six of those schools are closed as a result.

Meanwhile, 22 more cases were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Eleven of those cases were reported in children and 11 others were reported in staff members.

There are at least 153 child-care centres in Ontario with a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus and 36 are closed as a result.

March 3: At least 160 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in schools across Ontario Wednesday. Health officials say 138 of those infections were found in students and 21 were found in staff members. One cases was reported in individuals who were not identified.

Right now, there are 672 schools in Ontario with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Twenty-four of those schools are closed as a result.

Meanwhile, 25 more cases were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Sixteen of those cases were reported in children and nine others were reported in staff members.

There are at least 153 child-care centres in Ontario with a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus and 34 are closed as a result.

March 2: At least 262 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in schools across Ontario Tuesday. Health officials say 231 of those infections were found in students and 30 were found in staff members. One cases was reported in individuals who were not identified.

Right now, there are 640 schools in Ontario with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Twenty-three of those schools are closed as a result.

Meanwhile, 41 more cases were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Thirty-three of those cases were reported in children and eight others were reported in staff members.

There are at least 149 child-care centres in Ontario with a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus and 24 are closed as a result.

March 1: At least 116 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in schools across Ontario Monday. Health officials say 99 of those infections were found in students and 15 were found in staff members. Two cases were reported in individuals who were not identified.

Right now, there are 530 schools in Ontario with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Twenty of those schools are closed as a result.

Meanwhile, 13 more cases were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Seven of those cases were reported in children and six others were reported in staff members.

There are at least 139 child-care centres in Ontario with a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus and 21 are closed as a result.

Feb 26: At least 101 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in schools across Ontario. Health officials say 89 of those infections were found in students and 12 were found in staff members.

Right now, there are 468 schools in Ontario with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Eighteen of those schools are closed as a result.

Meanwhile, 29 more cases were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Twenty of those cases were reported in children and nine others were reported in staff members.

142 child-care centres in Ontario have a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus and 19 are closed as a result.  

Feb 25: At least 83 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in schools across Ontario Thursday. Health officials say 70 of those infections were found in students and 12 were found in staff members.

The details of one other confirmed case was not released by the province.

Right now, there are 430 schools in Ontario with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Eighteen of those schools are closed as a result.

Meanwhile, 25 more cases were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Fourteen of those cases were reported in children and eleven others were reported in staff members.

133 child-care centres in Ontario have a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus and 18 are closed as a result.  

Feb 24: At least 112 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in schools across Ontario Wednesday. Health officials say 89 of those infections were found in students and 18 were found in staff members.

The details on the five other confirmed cases were not released by the province.  

Right now, there are 401 schools in Ontario with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Sixteen of those schools are closed as a result.

Meanwhile, 27 more cases were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Nineteen of those cases were reported in children and eight others were reported in staff members.

126 child-care centres in Ontario have a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus and 15 are closed as a result.

Feb. 23: The province logged 175 more cases of COVID-19 found in Ontario schools. Of those cases, 149 were found among students, 22 were found among staff members and four were found in individuals not identified by officials.

There are currently 352 schools with a reported case of the disease across Ontario, 11 of which are closed.

The province also recorded 43 more infections of the novel coronavirus in child-care centres. Of those cases, 29 were found among children and 14 were found among staff.

At least 136 centres have a confirmed case of the disease, 15 of which are closed.

Feb. 22: Fifty-five more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools. Forty-seven of the cases were found among students and eight were found among staff.

As well, 15 more cases of the disease were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Fourteen of those cases were found among children and one were found among staff.

Feb. 17: Seventy-five more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools. Seventy-one of the cases were found among students and four were found among staff.

There are currently 152 schools with a reported case of the novel coronavirus across the province, four of which are closed.

As well, 53 more cases of the disease were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Thirty-four of those cases were found among children and 19 were found among staff.

At least 141 centres have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and 16 are closed.

Feb. 16: Twenty-three more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools. Twenty-two of the cases were found among students and one was found among staff.

There are currently 110 schools with a reported case of the novel coronavirus across the province, four of which are closed.

As well, 24 more cases of the disease were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Nine of those cases were found among children and 15 were found among staff.

At least 134 centres have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and 17 are closed.

Feb. 15: Schools were closed for Family Day in Ontario.

Feb 12: Thirty-one more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools. Twenty-four of the cases were found among students and seven were found among staff.

There are currently 112 schools with a reported case of the novel coronavirus across the province, three of which are closed.

As well, 16 more cases of the disease were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Twelve of those cases were found among children and four were found among staff.

At least 135 centres have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and 17 are closed.

Feb. 11: Twenty-nine more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools. Twenty-two of the cases were found among students and seven were found among staff.

There are currently 93 schools with a reported case of the novel coronavirus across the province, two of which are closed.

As well, 16 more cases of the disease were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Nine of those cases were found among children and seven were found among staff.

At least 139 centres have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and 18 are closed.

Feb. 10: Thirty-one more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools. Twenty-seven of the cases were found among students and four were found among staff.

There are currently 82 schools with a reported case of the novel coronavirus across the province, two of which are closed.

As well, 25 more cases of the disease were found in child-care centres in Ontario. Nineteen of those cases were found among children and six were found among staff.

At least 140 centres have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and 16 are closed.

Feb. 9: Forty-seven more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools in the last 24-hour period. Thirty-four of those cases were recorded in students while 10 were found in staff members. 

There are 67 schools with a reported case across the province, one of which is closed as a result.

Another 33 infections were logged in Ontario child-care centres. Twenty-one of those cases were found in children while 12 were found in staff members.

At least 155 centres have a confirmed case and 19 are closed.  

Feb. 8: Three more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools in the last 24-hour period. All three of those cases were recorded in students. 

There are 43 schools with a reported case across the province, one of which is closed as a result.

Another 12 infections were logged in Ontario child-care centres. Three of those cases were found in children while nine were found in staff members.

At least 154 centres have a confirmed case and 20 are closed. 

Feb. 5: Two more cases of COVID-19 were found in Ontario schools in the last 24-hour period. One of those cases was recorded in a student while the details of the other positive case were not disclosed. 

There are 45 schools with a reported case across the province, one of which is closed as a result. 

Another 22 infections were logged in Ontario child-care centres. Thirteen of those cases were found in children while nine were found in staff members. 

At least 161 centres have a confirmed case and 21 are closed.

Feb. 4: Nine new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ontario schools open for in-person learning. Eight of those infections were found among students and one was found in a staff member.

Currently, there are 46 schools in the province with a lab-confirmed case of the novel coronavirus. One school is closed.

There were also 25 new cases identified in Ontario child-care centres. Fourteen of those infections were among children and 11 were among staff.

At least 166 child-care facilities currently have a confirmed case of the disease, 22 of which are closed.

Feb. 3: Another 15 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ontario schools that are open for in-person learning Tuesday. Nine of those cases were reported in students and six in staff members.

There are currently 42 schools with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19, however no schools are closed as a result. 

Meanwhile, 29 more cases were identified in child-care centres. Thirteen of those infections were found in children and 16 in staff members.

At least 168 child-care facilities currently have a confirmed case, 23 of which are closed.

Feb. 2: Another 22 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ontario schools that are open for in-person learning Tuesday. Seventeen of those cases were reported in students and four in staff members. The details of one other case were not disclosed. 

There are currently 32 schools with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19, however no schools are closed as a result. 

Meanwhile, 39 more cases were identified in child-care centres. Sixteen of those infections were found in children and 23 in staff members.

At least 176 child-care facilities currently have a confirmed case, 23 of which are closed. 

Feb. 1: As of today, schools in northern Ontario and seven public health units in southern Ontario have returned to in-person learning. Parents in the regions of Toronto, Peel, York, Windsor-Essex and Hamilton were previously told their children would not be returning to the classroom until at least Feb. 10.

There were 43 new cases of COVID-19 reported in schools across Ontario in the past two weeks. Of those cases, 14 were reported in students and four were reported in staff members. The details of 25 other cases were not released.

As of Monday, there are 20 schools in the province with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19. One school is closed.

Meanwhile, 338 more infections were found in Ontario child-care centres in the last two weeks. One hundred and seventy of those cases were recorded in children and 168 were recorded in staff members.

At least 116 of those facilities have reported a confirmed case of the disease. Twenty of those centres are closed as a result.
