A couple accused of allegedly holding their 10-year-old nephew in a locked bedroom for as long as two years have been released from police custody.

London, Ont., police have not released their names to protect the identity of the child.

Last Thursday, police said the boy was found in his aunt and uncle’s locked master bedroom. Investigators believe he may have been held captive there between 18 and 24 months. He was taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with malnutrition. He has since been released from hospital and has been placed in a foster home

During a news conference last Friday, Det. Inspec. Kevin Heslop said the child was fed twice a day, typically once in the morning and once at night.

The couple's biological child, a nine-year-old girl, has been placed in a separate foster home.

The couple have been charged with failing to provide the necessities of life, and forcible confinement.

They are set to appear in court on July 10, 2014.
