VAUGHAN, Ont. - One of the founders of Longo Brothers Fruit Markets has died.

The company says in a statement that Tommy Longo, the eldest of the three founding brothers, died Sunday after a brief battle with leukemia.

He was 76.

In 1956, Tommy, along with his brothers Joe and Gus, opened their first fruit market on Yonge Street in Toronto.

There are now 23 locations in the Greater Toronto Area.

Longo's funeral is set for Wednesday in Woodbridge, Ont.
