A 47-year-old woman was locked in a freezer when a 24-hour Subway restaurant was robbed in Ajax on Wednesday morning.
Durham Regional Police say the robbery occurred around 5:10 a.m. at a Subway restaurant on Salem Road.
A lone suspect with a handgun restrained the employee and locked her in the store freezer.
Police say the suspect turned off the store light before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The store employee was rescued when other employees came into the restaurant for their morning duties. She was not injured during the incident.
The suspect is described as a 5'9" black male, who is in his mid- to late-20s.
He was wearing all black clothing, including a black toque and scarf that partially covered his face. The suspect was also wearing red winter gloves.
