A man and two teenage girls face multiple charges in connection to a series of violent home invasions where one man was shot and several people were robbed, tied up and pistol-whipped during a 24-hour crime spree.

Investigators are still searching for two other male suspects wanted in connection to the robberies and are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest.

Police Staff Insp. Mike Earl said the brazen attacks started on Oct. 16 when three men armed with guns “terrorized” and robbed residents in a multi-unit home.

The suspects then tried to break into another unit at 856 Weston Rd. by firing a shot through the door, striking the homeowner. The male victim was taken to Sunnybrook hospital where he had a kidney removed.

Earl said the home invasions were random attacks, a break from typical home invasions where the culprits typically know the homeowners.

"In this case it was a random act of violence," he said. "They went door-to-door systematically trying to terrorize members of the community."

The next day police allege that the men, joined by two teenage girls, robbed a boy of his cellphone and cash at gunpoint.

A short time later, a 17-year-old boy was kidnapped off the street and forced by the group to knock on the door of an acquaintance at an apartment on Clearview Heights. Once the door was opened, the group robbed the apartment’s residents.

According to police, this pattern of using teens to knock on the door of apartments, and then robbing the occupants continued.

Police eventually recovered the suspects’ vehicle, as well as a handgun and some of the stolen property on Bicknell Avenue.

Among the stolen items were clothing, video game systems, jewelry and identification.

"They were on a crime spree," said Earl. "It didn't matter what they took. If they liked it, they took it."

Residents of the apartment building, located near Keel Street and Eglinton Avenue West, told CTV Toronto that since the attacks, they’ve taken strides to protect their personal security.

“We went down and we got a security camera,” said one female resident, pointing to a video camera she had attached to her door frame. The camera allows her to see who is knocking at her door, she said.

Wendel McLean, 28, a 16-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, face several robbery, weapons and assault charges.

McLean also faces kidnapping, cocaine possession and an attempted murder charge.
