OAKVILLE, Ont. - Halton's Catholic school trustees have endorsed a policy that neither approves of nor bans gay-straight student groups.

The policy will now go to priests, parents, school administrators, church councils and students for comment before returning to the board for final approval.

The move comes after the board lifted its ban on gay-straight alliances last month.

The province has recommended gay-straight alliances as one way to support gay students.

The proposal recommends a new group to discuss all forms of discrimination in schools and does not use the words gay, lesbian or homosexual.
