A Toronto woman has been robbed of the money she made in a charity garage sale with the proceeds intended to go towards to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Jennifer Peters had raised about $400 in two yard sales but the cash, along with other items, were stolen in a May 19 break-in at her Coxwell and Gerrard-area home.

She was the captain of a team participating in the Canadian Cancer Society "Relay for Life." They had hoped to raise $2,500.

"I was quite devastated as you can imagine," she told CTV Toronto.

Peters, a teacher's college student, along with two others had organized the sales.

It was Peters third year involved in the "Relay for Life." She became involved after her grandfather was diagnosed with bowel cancer. He has since recovered.

"He's the inspiration for the team for me and all the team members have their own stories," she said.

Those wishing to donate to Peters "New Kids on the Walk" relay team can do so here.
