Three people are under arrest and a heritage home has been badly damaged after a car slammed into a building following a brief police chase early Saturday morning.

The crash happened at about 4:30 am in the Finch Avenue West and Senlac Road area in the city's north end.

According to police, a member of the canine unit saw a vehicle speed through a red light. A brief pursuit took place before the chase was called off for safety reasons.

A short time later the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the home.

The driver and two passengers were arrested at the scene.

An occupant of the home who identified himself as Al told CP24 Reporter Katie Simpson that they were woken by the crash. They ran downstairs to find part of the car lodged inside their home.

"I heard a big bang and I went downstairs and I looked at the main door from inside and I saw that the car was inside and there was smoke coming out of the car," he said.

The house is considered a landmark in the neighbourhood. It was once a farmhouse and has been preserved through the years.
