Friends and family will attend a candlelight vigil tonight to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of a gas-station attendant killed during a 'gas and dash' robbery in Toronto’s west end.

Jayesh Prajapati, a 44-year-old father, was struck down and dragged by a vehicle on Sept. 15, 2012 after he tried to stop a man who drove away without paying his $112 gas bill.

"Jayesh is fondly remembered for his friendly, gentle and kind nature. He often went out of his way to help customers, and these small acts of kindness struck a chord with many," Liberal MPP Mike Colle said in a statement.

After Prajapati’s death, Colle introduced a private member’s bill that would require customers to pre-pay at the pumps, and would toughen rules against employers who expect employees to pay for stolen gas.

Colle will join the vigil at the site where Prajapati was killed, near the corner of Roselawn Ave. and Marlee Ave., at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The victim’s widow and son will also be in attendance.

Max Edwin Tutiven – who is still at large – is wanted by police in connection with the case.
