Toronto police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of a man sought in connection with the brutal beating of a five-month-old boy.
"It is believed that the suspect may have fled the Toronto area and could be travelling towards the Quebec/U.S. border," they said Friday in a news release about Ronnie Munoz-Hernandez.
He is wanted on a charge of aggravated assault.
"Police would like to remind everyone that it is a criminal offence to assist wanted persons in avoiding arrest and such persons will be liable to prosecution."
Police have arrested and charged one man they allege helped Munoz-Hernandez.
A woman who identified herself as the infant's aunt has told CTV Toronto that Munoz-Hernandez had moved with the boy's mother about a week before.
On Sept. 11, she had left the boy alone with him.
By the next day, the boy had become unresponsive. The mother took him to the Hospital for Sick Children. Munoz-Hernandez had accompanied her.
However, after a nurse came out to tell the mother that her son had been beaten, Munoz-Hernandez was nowhere to be found, the aunt said.
The boy's injuries had been considered life-threatening. But he has undergone brain surgery and is still alive at this point.
Munoz-Hernandez is described as white, 5'1", 140 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. He speaks English with a hispanic accent.
