BEAMSVILLE, Ont. -- Police say a 27-year-old Brampton man has been charged in a collision a week ago that killed an 11-year-old boy and injured eight others.

Provincial police say a tractor-trailer hit a minivan carrying nine people early last Tuesday on the Toronto-bound Queen Elizabeth Way in Beamsville.

The minivan left the road, struck a steel barrier and rolled into the ditch. Police say the driver of the transport did not stop at the scene.

Laszlo Balog of Toronto was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say seven of the injured have been released from hospital.

Investigators located the tractor-trailer in Brampton and say the driver turned himself in to the Burlington provincial police detachment on Monday.

Daljinder Singh Sandhu is charged with failing to stop at a scene of an accident causing death and eight counts of failing to stop at a scene of an accident causing bodily harm.
